Arius was a man of old,
With ideas that were quite bold.
He stood against the orthodox view,
And his teachings, known as Arianism, grew.
In the days of early Christianity,
Arius presented a new reality.
He claimed that Jesus, God's own Son,
Was not truly divine, but a created one.
According to Arius, you see,
Jesus was not of the same divinity.
He argued that Jesus, though mighty and great,
Was a subordinate being, not equal in state.
The Orthodox Church cried out in dismay,
They saw this as a dangerous way.
They believed in the Holy Trinity,
Father, Son, and Spirit, in perfect unity.
But Arius persisted, with fervor and might,
Spreading his teachings, causing a fight.
He argued that Jesus, though honored and revered,
Was distinct from God, as many feared.
The controversy raged on and on,
From city to city, and dawn to dawn.
Councils were convened, debates were had,
To determine if Arianism was good or bad.
In the end, the Orthodox view prevailed,
Arianism, though influential, somewhat paled.
The Nicene Creed was formed, to clarify,
That Jesus and God were of the same sky.
So, Arius and his Arianism,
Left a mark in Christian schism.
Their ideas challenged and shaped the way,
We understand divinity to this very day.
But remember, this tale from the past,
Is just one perspective that didn't last.
In matters of faith and theological debate,
Many opinions arise, sometimes collide, and create.
